The Maine Math Coaching Project through the University of Maine at Farmington partners with districts that are seeking to improve the quality of mathematics instruction and learning in their schools. This program provides our math coaches with a system of support as they work to provide on-going, job embedded professional development to the teachers in MSAD#54. Examples of their duties include:
- modeling effective planning, instruction, and assessment
- co-teaching lessons
- supporting teachers with grading and unpacking learning goals for students
The Math coaches also work with teachers and administration to organize and interpret data. They help teachers make sense of data and use it to guide instruction, not only to create classroom goals, but also to set goals for small groups or individual students.
All instructional coaches (Math and Literacy) work together to create bi-weekly learning opportunities for teachers through our afternoon Professional Development sessions as well as workshop days. The overall goal of the PD is to support teachers’ knowledge and use of research-based practices in the classroom in order to improve student learning.
