Job Description

Job Summary:

The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Instructor for EMT and Fire Sciences is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to students interested in careers in emergency medical services and fire science. The instructor will provide theoretical knowledge and hands-on training, ensuring that students develop the skills necessary to pursue certifications and careers in these fields. This position requires a combination of industry experience, teaching ability, and a passion for student success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum aligned with state and national standards for EMT and Fire Sciences programs.
  • Deliver engaging classroom instruction and hands-on training, including emergency response simulations, fire safety procedures, and patient care techniques.
  • Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications, such as EMT-Basic and Firefighter I & II.
  • Supervise and mentor students in laboratory settings, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
  • Coordinate and oversee clinical and field experiences, including ride-alongs with fire departments and EMS agencies.
  • Assess student progress through exams, practical evaluations, and portfolio reviews.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Establish partnerships with local emergency services, fire departments, and healthcare providers to support student learning and career pathways.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, advancements, and regulatory changes in EMT and fire science fields.
  • Participate in professional development and collaborate with fellow educators to enhance program quality.
  • Promote career readiness by assisting students with job placement, resume building, and interview preparation.

Requirements

 

Qualifications:

Education & Certifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Emergency Medical Services, or a related field (preferred but not always required).
  • Hold a Maine EMS Instructor Coordinator License  
  • Firefighter I & II certification (preferred, if applicable).
  • Eligible for Maine Department of Education Career and Technical Education Certification: (912 Emergency Medical Technician)

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in emergency medical services and/or fire sciences.
  • Previous teaching or training experience in a classroom or field setting preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate high school or post-secondary students.
  • Hands-on training expertise, including using simulation equipment.
  • Proficiency in instructional technology and online learning platforms.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with industry partners and school staff.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
