Since the beginning of the pandemic, our focus has been to keep kids in school safely. Each time we have a positive case an exhaustive process is used to determine contacts, including identifying contacts that likely led to the positive individual becoming infected. Today’s case at Bloomfield Elementary School, unlike those previous, did not have a clear link to contact outside of school. Although there was not definitive evidence of in school spread in today's Bloomfield case, there was enough concern that the decision was made to follow the CDC guidance for possible in class spread and quarantine the entire classroom of concern. This decision was made, as all decisions in the past have been made, to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

Nursing staff worked with our families and as a result of people doing a great job following the protocols and no exposure outside of school, no students or staff have had to quarantine as a result of these most recent positive cases. Maine CDC did reach out this afternoon to inform the district that Bloomfield Elementary School is now in “Outbreak status” as a result of it now having 3 positive cases within a 14-day window. Based on the cases and information, there was no recommendation to quarantine a class or close the building at this time. We will continue to monitor the situation and will reach out should the recommendations change or additional cases arise.
