Public Information and Announcements
I am writing to inform you that MSAD 54 was notified earlier today that a student at SAMS has tested positive for COVID-19. District nursing staff and administration worked over the course of the day to confirm the positive case with Maine CDC and identify close contacts. All individuals having to quarantine as a result of this positive case were contacted today. In total there were 9 students and 1 staff member who will have to quarantine.
We are writing to inform you that Maine CDC has reached out to the district to inform us that Mill Stream Elementary School (MSES) has been labeled as an “Outbreak”. A school is labeled an outbreak when there are 3 positive cases that are associated with the school within a 14-day period, even if an individual who became positive was not at the school during the time he or she may have been contagious. In reviewing the cases we had reported to Maine CDC, they confirmed that MSAD 54 nursing staff are doing an exceptional job following state protocols for tracking, reporting and following-up on cases in our schools, including required quarantining.

I’m writing to inform you that MSAD 54 was notified over the weekend of two positive cases of COVID-19 in the district that impacted students and staff who were in school last week, one at Mill Stream Elementary and one at Canaan Elementary school.
District nursing staff and administration worked throughout the day to confirm the positive cases and identify close contacts. All individuals having to quarantine as a result of these positive cases were contacted at some point during the day yesterday. In total 45 students and 5 staff members were asked to quarantine.
A huge 'THANK YOU’ to our extraordinary educators who have worked tirelessly with students and families to keep things moving forward, despite all of the challenges this year. We are privileged to work with such a dedicated and selfless team. May this week be as special as you all are!
I’m writing to inform you that we confirmed today that a Bloomfield Elementary School (BES) student, a staff member at Canaan Elementary School (CES) and an individual associated with the district have tested positive for COVID-19. District nursing and administrative staff contacted Maine CDC and determined that 6 staff and 16 students will need to quarantine as a result of these exposures.
I’m writing to provide you with a variety of updates, including information on COVID-19 cases in the district, important travel information for anyone who has traveled to review before returning to school, the establishment of the final day of school for students, and the recent change in Somerset County’s color designation. There’s a lot of news, and it is our hope that this letter provides you with details to help you make informed decisions for your families. Should you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call us at school.
