I’m writing to inform you that MSAD 54 was notified today of a staff person from SAMS who has tested positive for COVID-19.
District nursing staff and administration worked throughout the day to confirm the positive case and identify any close contacts of the individual. Maine DOE/CDC was contacted and updated regarding the case. All individuals having to quarantine as a result of this positive case have been contacted. In total 3 additional staff members, and 65 students have been asked to quarantine.
Our nursing staff received information today indicating that we have two students who have tested positive for COVID-19 at Skowhegan Area High School. These cases resulted in 38 additional students and 7 staff being impacted and needing to quarantine.
Our MSAD 54 nursing staff have been working with the Maine DOE/CDC for each of SAHS’s recent positive cases of COVID-19. Based on this work and the information obtained, there remains no evidence of in-school transmission.

I’m writing to provide you with an update on SAHS, as well as a positive case we were informed of today at SAMS.
SAHS: Late last night we were made aware of another positive student at SAHS. This second positive case impacted additional staff and students who were asked today to quarantine. As a result of these last two positive cases, we have asked 10 staff and 95 students to quarantine.
Today the high school worked remotely per their red plan schedule. Our intention is to return to in-person instruction on Monday following our current hybrid schedule. Because of the high number of impacted staff (school and non-school exposures), there will be challenges staffing the school on Monday. We be working over the weekend on staffing and will make a final determination on Sunday. We will reach out to our SAHS parents and students on Sunday afternoon via text, phone, and email.
SAMS: Today we were informed that a SAMS student tested positive for COVID-19. District nursing and administrative staff contacted Maine CDC and determined that 13 staff and 14 students will need to quarantine as a result of this exposure.
Please be advised that Friday, 4/9/21 will be a Red/Remote Learning Day for Skowhegan Area High School and students.
This letter is to inform you that today a Skowhegan Area High School (SAHS) student has tested positive for COVID-19. District nursing and administrative staff contacted Maine CDC and determined that 6 staff and several students will need to quarantine as a result of this exposure. With several staff already scheduled to be out of school on Friday (4/9/21), we have decided that SAHS (grades 9-12 only) will follow the Red/Remote Plan on Friday, April 9th.
I’m writing to inform you that we confirmed late today that a Canaan Elementary (CES) student has tested positive for COVID-19. District nursing and administrative staff contacted Maine CDC and determined that 2 staff and 20 students will need to quarantine as a result of this exposure.
All individuals needing to quarantine were contacted by district nursing staff over the course of the afternoon today. At this time there is no recommendation that we close a school or take additional actions beyond those described above.
I’m writing to inform you that we confirmed today that a staff member from the Skowhegan Area High School (SAHS) has tested positive for COVID-19. Over the course of the day today, our nursing and administrative staff worked to determine which students and staff were impacted as a result of this new positive case.
Nursing staff were in contact with Maine CDC/DOE today and worked to provide updated information regarding this new positive case. As of this afternoon, all individuals needing to quarantine have been contacted. In total, thirteen students and six staff members have been asked quarantine as a result of this positive case. At this time there is no recommendation that we take additional actions beyond those described above.
